Question for new members

Postby ianbutty » Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:56 pm

I've noticed that we've had a good number of new members recently. Firstly "Welcome" and I hope we'll see you taking part in discusions before very long.

I have a question for you : how did you hear about about this forum?

I know it has been plugged/mentioned in a number of places - I'm just interested to know which are bringing people in.

Thanks,
Ian M Butterfield

I will consider myself new, only two months.

I found the site while googling for Myloupe, as I was trying to find a forum with information about the site and whether after all the time at the site I was the only one with no sales :( (guess not)

Howdy All

I am definitely newbie. I found this site/forum a couple of months back when I was googling for information on Alamy. Since then I have lurked regularly and now that I have been accepted by Alamy I figured I should join up. While alot quieter than the Yahoo Alamy Pro forum at least the content here is easily found and revelant.

Welcome Cain,
Lurkers always welcome here... those that sign up even more so! ;-) Do let us know how things go with Alamy. If you have any questions feel free to fire away I'm sure that someone here will probably know the answers.

Thank You Ian. I will certainly keep everyone informed once I make a sale with Alamy and maybe MyLoupe (which I just joined). Though from reading the forum here a MyLoupe sale may take awhile :( For now though the focus is getting more images to Alamy.

aka Razz

I stumbled upon this forum trying to find out on Flickr how I should load photos of mine onto other groups, when receiving a request to do so. I've always found Flickr almost impenetrable - despite being a member for many years - and as a result have only a fraction of my output on show there. Can't even find out how to send them a question. Their FAQs never match my queries. Years ago you could at least do that.

'iPhotos' suggests a connection with Apple iPhotos. Is that correct?
A collection of iPhotos users?

And what is 'Alamy'

And what's the easiest, most elegant way of adding watermarks (copyright credits) to photos before putting them online?

Hi Razz,
Firstly, welcome to the forum. No... absolutely no connection to apple. I registered the name before I'd heard of the apple program. It appear appropriate I for Ian and I for Internet and Photos for well.... photos!

Alamy is a photographic library that many pro and semipro photographers use to sell their photographs. www.alamy.com.

The easiest way to add watermarks before uploading is to create an action in Photoshop. Do it once, record it as an action and then run that action on all the photos you want to upload.

Thank you for that prompt and succinct reply.
Looks like I shouldn't put off buying Elements 6 any longer!

I suspect I shall be back with more queries soon.

Again, thank you for your help

Hi Ian
I found your link on the Alamy forum, so you could say that I am an Alamy refugee. I didn't post that much on there but have become so fed up with their heavy handedness in the so called forum. It is so strange to see the tumble weed rolling around on there . After what was a very enjoyable forum.

Welcome Mat,
All Alamy refugees are welcome here! ;-)

Thanks for reviving this thread too - we have had a good number of new members since the forum was resurected just before Easter, and I always find it both interesting and helpful to know how people found out about this forum.

I have to say I have a wry smile on my face regarding the recent problems with Alamy's own forum. This forum was going long before theirs and I know Alamy spent some time studying this forum (and others I guess?) at the time they were setting theirs up. Once they did this forum lost traffic and gained tumbleweed!

I recall talking about forums with one member of Alamy at an event in Sheffield just before they set their forum up. I told them they would need moderation on their forum and I was told that they didn't see the need for it. Well now they have it! The problem is - it is now too much too late and has destroyed their forum. If they had moderated their forum early on it would have been sucessful. Moderation doesn't need to be heavy handed but can be done just by being involved with discussions and helping to set a tone for the forum.

Enough of my ramblings.... back to work.
