iPhotos Wiki is live!

Postby ianbutty » Sat Sep 01, 2007 4:24 pm

I'm pleased to announce that the iPhotos Wiki is now live. It can be found at: http://www.iphotos.co.uk/wiki/

It is going to take me a little longer than I would like to integrate the authentication for the forum with that of the wiki. (Problems will arise if they are in different subdomains - which is the case here). So as an interim solution if you would like to post/edit/write in the wiki you will need to register seperately. If you use the same username on the wiki as you do on the forum it should simplify things later on.

I've already started moving over some of the KB pages from the forum and a couple of technique pages from an old defunct website I had.

I would encourage people to use and contribute to the wiki so that we can build up a good resouce of information to support our photographic careers.

You'll get used to it! ;-)

Thanks for adding that info in there. I'm still learning the system myself, it appears that wikis aren't as intuative as they could be. (From an editing point of view at least) But I think a little perseverence will pay dividends.

It is also a good idea to look at existing pages to see how they have been layed out. I've leared a lot by viewing the source (edit screen) for other wikis on the web.

Quick question,

When adding an agency reference I assume that once the link has been put into the libraries page that you then go to the template page, fill out the bits and then that is then the page throught to the link? Or do you have to copy the format or copy/paste the format?

What I found confusing was trying to edit the link which deletes the linked page...hence the corrections in the history.

Ok quick reply - bullet points.
Red links are the pages (photolibraries) that don't exist.
Click on the link it will open in editor mode
Type "{{Subst:LibInfo}}" (for the stock library template)
Save the page
re-edit the page and the contents of the template will have been copied into the page.
You can then make changes to the page.

All add this info to the wiki tomorrow.

I've converted this into a tutorial on how to add stock libraries to the wiki. It can be found at: http://www.iphotos.co.uk/wiki/index.php ... _a_library

I Hope it helps.

Also added is a getting started guide which explains more about what the wiki is all about:

Hi Geoff
The login for the forum and for the wiki are separate. I've requested the wiki to reset your password and email it to you. When you get that you should be able to log into the wiki and reset the password by selecting preferences within the wiki.
